Privacy Policy

The Short Version

We collect only what we need to make Kithup work. We don't sell your data. We don't show you tracking ads. Your plans and circles are private to the people you choose. We store your data securely and delete it when you ask.

1. What We Collect

Information you give us

• Your name and profile photo
• Your email address or phone number (for account creation)
• Plans you create: title, date, location, description
• Circle names and memberships
• Your responses to plan invitations (joining or declining)

Information we collect automatically

• Your approximate location (city and zip code) when you use the Discover tab — only if you grant permission
• Which plans you attended (recorded when you scan a QR code or confirm attendance)
• Basic usage data: which features you use, when you log in

Information we do not collect

• Your precise GPS coordinates are never stored on our servers — only your city and zip code
• We do not read your WhatsApp, iMessage, or any other messaging app
• We do not track you across other websites or apps

2. How We Use Your Data

We use your data to:

• Run and improve Kithup
• Show you plans from your circles
• Calculate your reliability score (attendance history only)
• Suggest relevant activities on the Discover tab based on your location and circle interests
• Send you push notifications about plans you've joined
• Show relevant sponsored listings in the Discover tab based on your general location and browsing category

We do not use your data to:

• Show you tracking advertisements based on your personal data profile or cross-app behavior
• Build a profile to sell to third parties
• Train AI models on your personal content

3. Sponsored Listings in Discover

Kithup may show sponsored local business listings within the Discover tab. These are clearly labeled as "Sponsored" or "Featured Partner."

Sponsored listings are selected based on your general location (city and zip code) and the activity category you are browsing — not on your personal data profile, browsing history across other apps, or sensitive personal information.

Businesses that sponsor listings receive only aggregated, anonymized engagement data (for example, how many people viewed or tapped their listing). They never receive your personal information, name, or contact details.

This is fundamentally different from targeted advertising. We do not sell your data to advertisers or allow advertisers to target you based on your personal profile.

4. Reliability Scores

Kithup calculates a reliability score for each user based on their attendance history — specifically, how often they attend plans they have joined.

• What the score reflects: Whether you showed up to plans you said you would attend.
• Who can see your score: Members of your circles can see your reliability label (e.g. "Always there ⭐" or "Reliable 🤝"). They cannot see your exact numerical score or your full attendance history.
• What it is not: A character judgment, a credit score, or a public rating. It is a private signal shared only within your trusted circles to help everyone plan better together.
• How to improve it: Attend plans you join, or cancel with notice when you cannot attend.

5. Who We Share Data With

We do not sell your data. Ever.

We share limited data with:

• Infrastructure providers (hosting, database) who process data on our behalf under strict data processing agreements
• Push notification services (Apple, Google) to deliver plan notifications to your device
• Business partners who sponsor listings in the Discover tab — they receive only aggregated, anonymized engagement data, never your personal information
• Law enforcement only when required by law and only to the extent required

We do not share your personal data with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics companies beyond basic anonymous usage metrics.

6. Your Circles Are Private

Kithup has no public feed. Your plans are only visible to:

• Members of the circles you choose to share them with
• People you explicitly invite via a Signal Bridge link

Nobody outside your circles can search for you, find your plans, or see your activity.

7. Location Data

The Discover tab uses your approximate location (city and zip code) to show relevant activities and sponsored listings nearby.

• Location permission is requested when you first open the Discover tab
• You can decline and enter a zip code manually instead
• We store your city and zip code — not your precise GPS coordinates
• Your location is used only to show relevant nearby content — never for cross-app tracking or profiling
• You can update or remove your location from your profile settings at any time

8. Push Notifications

We use push notifications to let you know about plan invitations, updates, and reminders.

• You control notification permissions in your device settings
• You can manage notification preferences within the Kithup app
• Disabling notifications does not affect your ability to use Kithup

9. Data Retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active.

To request deletion of your account and data, email us at help@kithup.app. We will process all deletion requests within 30 days. Account deletion is not currently available directly in the app.

Upon deletion:

• Your profile, plans, and circle data are removed within 30 days
• Anonymized attendance data may be retained for aggregate analytics (not linked to your identity)
• We do not offer data export at this time

10. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:

• Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS)
• Secure credential storage
• Access controls limiting who on our team can access user data

No system is perfectly secure. If you discover a security vulnerability, please contact us at help@kithup.app.

11. Children

Kithup is not intended for users under 16 years old. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has created an account, please contact us at help@kithup.app and we will delete the account.

12. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and data by emailing help@kithup.app
• Withdraw consent for location data at any time

To exercise these rights, contact us at help@kithup.app or use the account settings in the app.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as Kithup evolves. If we make significant changes — especially changes that affect how we use your data — we will notify you via the app or email before the changes take effect.

15. Data Processors

Kithup uses the following third-party services to operate the product. Each acts as a data processor on our behalf:

• Supabase — database and authentication infrastructure (supabase.com)
• Resend — transactional email delivery (resend.com)
• Vercel — hosting and infrastructure (vercel.com)
• Google Gemini — AI inference for the Ideas tab (ai.google.dev)
• PostHog — product analytics (posthog.com)
